M-Class FAQ

Q: My printer is not printing all the way across my label. Do I need to replace my printhead?
A: No. Check the leveling cam located below the printhead latch on the printer. Make sure that the green “thumb screw” is towards the back of the printer and tightened down. If not, this will cause your printhead to lift up on the right hand side causing no contact with the media. Refer to the Operator’s Manual for this adjustment.

Q: My label doesn’t come out to the perforation on my M-4210. How do I fix this?
A: By default, the label should come out to the tear off spot. Check your “Present Distance” setting in the menu. This is located under Print Control/Present Distance. By setting this to “Auto”, your label will be presented to the tear off location.

Q; Some of the settings were changed in my printer. How do I set it back to factory defaults?
A: To set the printer back to factory defaults, hold down the Pause, Feed, and Cancel buttons simultaneously while powering the printer up. Hold these buttons down until you see a fault message on the screen or, for non-display models, the pause light goes off. This will reset the printer to factory defaults.

Q: All three LED lights are illuminated on my printer. What does that mean?
A: This means that there is currently a problem with the printer. Call Datamax Technical Support to have this problem further evaluated.

Q: I want to use my printer with Direct Thermal media. Is that possible?
A: Yes, all M-Class Mark II and previous M Class model printers can print using Direct Thermal labels. Direct Thermal is standard on all Datamax printers. Thermal Transfer is an Option and requires ribbon.

Q: My ribbon keeps wrinkling and causing voids in my print? How can I fix this?
A: This depends on the size of your labels and ribbon. Datamax recommends that your Ribbon be 1/8th of an inch to no more than 1/4th of an inch wider than your label. Any size over this can cause ribbon wrinkle. However, there are some adjustments that might resolve your issue. Please contact Datamax Technical Support for these procedures and adjustments.

Q: I can access the M Class from a web interface but it asks me for a password. What is the password?
A: The password is sysadm.

Q: My printer feeds too many labels at a time and then gives me a “TOF Fault”. What is this fault and how do I clear it?
A: TOF Fault stands for a Top of Form Fault. The printer is having a problem detecting your label type/size. For immediate resolution please call Datamax Technical Support at 407-523-5540.

Q: Can I print Internal test labels from my M-4206 non-display printer?
A: Yes. With the printer turned on and only the Ready light on, pressing the Pause and Feed buttons together and releasing will result in a Sample label. Pressing the Feed and Cancel buttons together and releasing will result in a Configuration label.

Q: I purchased an M-4206 to replace my old Allegro. The labels are not printing correctly. Is this the correct replacement printer for my Allegro?
A: Yes, all printers from the Allegro family can be replaced by the M-Class family.
There is an “Emulation” setting that needs to be changed in the M-4206. Refer to the Operator’s manual or call our Technical Support Department for further assistance.
