I-Class FAQ
Q: My printer is displaying “Position Fault”. What is causing this?
A: The printer was unable to find the Top of the next label. Press the FEED button to clear any related fault conditions. If the condition persists it might be necessary to calibrate the printer. See the Operator’s Manual for this procedure.
Q: Can the I-Class accept label formats created in the Zebra® print language (ZPL™)
A: Yes, All I-Class printers (other than the I-4206 and I-4208) can be configured to use ZPL data streams. A firmware upgrade is required, the firmware can be downloaded here.
Q: How do I perform a Quick Calibration?
A: The printer is calibrated to sense a wide range of media. Calibration fine-tunes these settings for your die-cut, notched, or reflective application. (Not required for continuous media.) Perform this calibration during initial setup or after changing your media type. Ensure that media is loaded and that the Media Sensor is adjusted correctly. Then, with the printer Ready, press and hold the FEED button. Allow at least 3 complete labels to advance then release the button. Upon successful completion, CALIBRATION COMPLETE and then READY will be displayed.
Q: One of the latching pins that lock down my printhead broke off. Are they easy to replace?
A: No. We do have a kit available but you must have a machine shop with the correct tools to replace them.
Q: I have several older I-4208 units with a Nic Card. We purchased a new 4208 and it shows “4210” in the display when I turn it on. Is this a mistake?
A: This is no mistake. When customers order an I-4208 with our new Nic Card we ship them an I-4210 at no extra cost. Our new Nic Card is not compatible with the I-4208’s main board. You should not see any difference between your older models and this new one.
Q: Our Company uses both the I-4208 and I-4308 for printing our labels. One of the 4208’s does not work. Can I use the platen roller from that unit to replace the worn roller in my 4308?
A: Yes. The same platen roller is used in ALL I Class printers.
Q: The Internal Rewinder is not rewinding the labels like it normally does. It is very old and I’m guessing it is bad. Are they easy to replace?
A: Yes. There are only 3 screws that mount the housing to the center plate of the printer. By removing these 3 screws you pull the entire assembly out and then install your new one.
Q: I have some very old I-4206’s that I’m replacing with the 4208 model. A few of the older models still work fine. I replaced the printhead in one and now all I’m getting is black lines. Could this new printhead be bad?
A: No. Chances are you have the wrong printhead. Older models of the 4206 about CY2001 & earlier have some different electronics and they are not compatible with our new printheads. The part number that you need is DPO20-2262-01.
