H-Class FAQ

Q: Can I change the font size of the text in my LCD display?
A: Yes, you can change the font size by pressing the down arrow button while the printer is in the “Ready” mode. A magnifying lens icon will appear on the LCD screen when the large font size is enabled. You can switch back by pressing the down arrow button again to return the font to its Factory default size.

Q: Can I display my company logo in my H-Class LCD screen?
A: Yes, you can upload a personalized logo in your LCD screen. The image file must meet the following requirements; the image should be a 2 bit, black & white bitmap (BMP), image size should be 312 pixels x 94 pixels. Save the image file to a SD card or a USB memory stick in a folder called "H" on either device. This must be created on a pc. You MUST name the file "logolab.bmp". Connect the device into the correct port on the printer. Once connected, cycle power to the printer and the H-Class will locate the image on your memory device and display the image on your LCD screen. To save the image to the printer, navigate the printer’s menu to printer options>modules>copy file, and then copy this file to the printer’s flash memory (i.e. Module G). The image will be displayed each time the printer is powered on.

Q: How do I save different sensor type settings so I do not have to calibrate the printer each time I change from gap labels to reflective or to continuous form tags.
A: You can create different configuration files for different types of media and save these settings in the printers Flash Memory. When the media is changed, this configuration file can be selected without re-calibrating the printer. To create a configuration setting you must first configure a media type and then calibrate the printer. Then navigate the printer’s menu to Advanced Menu>System Settings>Configuration File>Save Setting As. Name the setting with a name you can easily identify with the media type. You can create different configuration files for different printer settings and recall them at any time by selecting “Restore as Current” by following the above menu navigation.

Q: Can I use a Standard USB Keyboard to access the printer?
A: Yes, you can use a Standard USB Keyboard to manipulate your printer, from navigating thru the menu system to running Internal Variable Replacements to print labels. (Please call your Datamax Technical Support Representative for details)

Q: How do I capture a HEX Dump file in the printer?
A: First set your printer to “File Capture Mode” by navigating the menu to Advanced Menu>Diagnostics>Hex Dump Mode, then select File Capture and press “Enter”. When exiting the menu you will be prompted to “Save Changes”. Press “Yes” and the display will now read Hex Dump Mode. Send a format/file to the printer that you wish to capture. The file will be saved in your Flash module* as a DMX_xxx_xxx file.

• A USB Flash Memory Module/Stick is needed to perform this procedure.

Q: How do I set my printer to display the advanced menu.
A: Make sure the printer is in the “Ready” mode and navigate the menu to Systems Settings>Menu Mode and select Advanced Menu. Once you press “Enter” the printer will automatically return to the Ready screen.

Q: Can I use Coated Side Out (CSO) Ribbons on a Standard H-Class printer?
A: All H-Class printers Thermal Transfer assembly is designed to run both the Coated Side Out and Coated Side In ribbons. No printer adjustments or software adjustments are required.

A: No. Your printer is a “Short” H Class. The USB/SDIO is an Option on the Short models. It is standard on all Tall models.
