A-Class FAQ

Q: Does the A-Class emulate the Sato® printer language?
A: Currently we only emulate the Zebra® printer language. Sato emulation will come at a later date TBD.

Q: How do I clear “Close Head/Cover Fault”?
A: With labels and ribbon loaded correctly, make sure the printhead is locked down and the cover is closed. Then press the “Feed” button one time.

Q: How do I configure the “GPIO PORT” in the printers menu?
A: These settings are proprietary to the applicator itself. Contact the Manufacture/Reseller of the applicator for these settings.

Q: I am replacing several old Zebra® print engines with the A-Class. I have several boxes of Zebra® ribbon. Can I use these in the Datamax A-Class?
A: Yes. All A-Class printers have a “Unidirectional ribbon hub”. You can use either Coated Side In or Coated Side Out ribbon.

Q: I need to change the printhead on my A-Class. Should I check the voltage or check any settings in the menu?
A: No. When replacing a printhead you simply remove the old one and install the new one. This applies to all printers in the A-Class family.

Q: What adjustments are there for “ribbon wrinkle”? My labels are 3 inches wide and my ribbon is 4 inches wide.
A: Datamax recommends that your Ribbon be 1/8th of an inch to no more than 1/4th of an inch wider than your label. Any size over this can cause ribbon wrinkle. However, there are some adjustments that might resolve your issue. Please contact Datamax Technical Support for these procedures and adjustments.

Q: I would like to install the Remote Display Option on my entire A Class print engines. Can I use the current displays I have or do I need to order all new displays?
A. You can use the displays currently installed in the printers. All you need to order is the Remote Display cable. That part number is DPO78-2516-01. *For warranty purposes, this must be performed by a Datamax Certified Technician*.

Q: My main drive roller is worn and needs replaced. Can I change it with one of the other 3 rollers?
A: Yes. However, you will also have to change the gears as well depending on which roller you select. The rollers are interchangeable but the gears are not except for the rear roller. That uses the same gear as the main driver roller.

Q: I have a very old PE42 that I’m replacing with a new A-Class. The applicator port on the A-Class is not the same as the PE42. Do you have a converter cable available?
A: Yes. That part number is DPO32-2562-01.
